From the very beginning, Georgian Bay Food Network has been all about neighbours helping neighbours. Alongside our generous donors, the other people who’ve helped GBFN make such a big impact so quickly are our amazing volunteers. Unpacking shipments, stocking shelves, greeting visitors, explaining how the shop works — plus spreading the word at fundraising and community events — these tireless, dedicated people make all the difference.
From day one, we’ve been fortunate to have the kind of loyal, passionate supporters that organizations like ours need to fulfill our promise to the community. Our volunteers understand why this work is so important, and they also know the key to making it happen — joining together with other people who share the same values. Every day, they show once again that we’re not just a food bank, we’re a network.

We put rescued food to good use.
At GBFN, we’re big believers in food rescue: working with grocery stores and other businesses to collect good, edible food that would otherwise go to waste. To be clear, these are items that may be just past their best before date (i.e., not “expired”) but are still healthy, nutritious and safe to eat.
Our main food rescue supporter is Foodland Penetanguishene, which gives GBFN top priority for its regular shipments of products that can no longer be sold in the store. We have other food rescue partners as well, and we’re always on the lookout for more.
So whether you’re a grocery retailer, a specialty shop, a wholesale distributor, a processor or manufacturer, or a farmer or greenhouse operator — if you have food available for rescue, please get in touch. It’s one more way you can help us get healthy meals onto people’s tables. And it also advances sustainability by helping reduce the incredible amount of perfectly good food that goes to waste every day.
